
Barnett Tool & Engineering was founded in 1948 by Afton and Charlie Barnett. Charlie started out by making control cables for motorcycles. He added items to the line that he imported from England and later invented products of his own. The first part he invented was our #37 cable clamp which they still make today. Over the years he added his own throttles, levers, and fittings continually expanding the business. Charlie first started making clutch plates in the 1950's with components for Harley Davidson and European bikes. In 1991, Barnett was the first motorcycle clutch manufacturer to use Kevlar friction material. In 1993 we began using CNC machined aluminum friction plate cores that feature wider drive tabs to reduce wear on clutch baskets. Newer innovations include our "CF" series Carbon Fiber friction plate material and the Scorpion billet clutch assembly for Harley Davidson. In 1999, Barnett went through a complete makeover when we moved to our new facility in Ventura, California. Not only did they expand the size of our facility, but added new CNC machines and a streamlined assembly line, shipping line, and computers with the latest high tech systems. The move was performed in order to continue to produce top quality products in a timely and professional manner. All Barnett products are made in the U.S.A. with the finest materials available. Barnett is, and always has been, family owned and operated. While Afton and Charlie have since passed away, the family tradition continues. Today Afton and Charlie's daughter, Colleen, and husband Mike Taylor own and operate Barnett. A third generation of family members, son Chris Taylor, granddaughter Jennifer Rastutis and her husband Xavier Romero are also involved in maintaining the family tradition. They are a family of motorcycle riders and racers dedicated to making the world's finest clutches and cables.
