Black Bamboo (Phyllostachys nigra)


Black Bamboo (Phyllostachys nigra) is an architectural plant that creates a fantastic focal point in your garden. Wonderfully statuesque, Oriental Black Bamboo has arching green canes that turn a lustrous black in their second or third year, while it s abundant glossy leaves remain evergreen. Unlike other varieties of bamboo, it is not invasive and can be grown on the patio in a large container. It makes an excellent foliage subject in a mixed border or, if grown in a row, makes an attractive and effective evergreen screen. Even though its origins are in China, Phyllostachys nigra is fully hardy and the British winter will not harm it, making a very welcome and unexpected winter treat.
